Being Enough
Being Enough may be easy to say, yet difficult to practice and believe. Using the very words as a mantra in a breathing or mediation practice can help. Inhale “I am”, exhale, “enough”. Thoughts that become actions shift our beliefs.
The world of social media, especially Instagram, has heightened the competitive nature in all of us. We view pictures and start to imagine the lives behind the photos and stories begin to snowball in our heads. We start to plan how we can compete with that look, pose, outfit, body, or event. We feel compelled to write and plan our stories that will top the latest Instagram post.
As I reflect on what this all means, I wonder what is real and who are the souls beneath the photos? What are they really like? Do they believe they are enough? Do they go through their day with love, appreciation and kindness for themselves and others? Do they believe in their own self worth? I engaged in a social media conversion recently when something that was said so simply really resonated with me. What I heard was “It’s not real”…As I thought about this, I realized how many of us believe what we see on Facebook, Instagram and read on twitter is real. Remember, reality is nothing more than our own perception. We have the power to adopt or dismiss what we see, hear or read as our reality. Thoughts become actions, actions form our beliefs, beliefs make our reality, which is very individual. If we think we are enough, we act like we are enough, as we act like we are enough, we believe we are enough. When we believe we are enough, our reality is we are enough.
It’s so hard to drop the stories and detach from the notions and ideas of the physical environment and just sit with ourselves. As we stop and slow down, we allow ourselves the opportunity to take an introspective look within, and it’s those moments when we can tell ourselves “WE ARE ENOUGH..PERIOD!
